Manchester United legend Gary Neville spoke highly of Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles on Sky Sports Premier League on Friday evening (7:45pm, April 12, 2019).

The former United and England international believes that Lascelles is a leader at the back, and that he is what Newcastle fans want.

Neville said about Lascelles on Sky Sports Premier League on Friday evening (7:45pm, April 12, 2019): “I always feel that he is the leader in the back five, the one who sets the example.

"I remember doing a game up there at Christmas time against Manchester United, and I thought he was absolutely incredible, throws himself at everything.

“When you think of Newcastle’s fans they always want that passion, the leader, someone to believe in, and for me he is the one on the pitch who wears the shirt with pride and passion.”

Quality defender

Lascelles is one of the best and most important players in the current Newcastle team and has been playing well for Rafael Benitez’s side this season.

According to WhoScored, the former Nottingham Forest defender has made 29 appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle so far this season, providing one assist in the process.

During the 2017-18 campaign, the 25-year-old made 32 starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League for the Magpies, scoring three goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

Newcastle seem to be safe from relegation to the Championship, and the 25-year-old should be praised for his performances and his leadership.

If Lascelles continued to play well, then he could earn a call to the England national football team.
