Can Rangers turn Southampton’s interest in Scott Arfield into something more?

Fresh off his first ever hat-trick at the weekend, Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield is attracting transfer interest.

The Mail report Rangers ace Arfield is a target for Southampton, less than a year after leaving Burnley.

Rangers are not thought to be in any rush to cash in. But what if Steven Gerrard could flip this around and start chasing a Southampton player?

Here are three Saints players Rangers should consider for a swap deal…

Matt Targett

Targett’s versatility on the left side could be exactly what Rangers need.

The 23-year-old is predominantly a left-back, and can also play in midfield.

Left-back is a position where Rangers have struggled this season, with Borna Barisic struggling to stay fit.

Targett played a role in getting Fulham promoted last  season but is stuck behind Ryan Bertrand at Southampton.

Josh Sims

Winger Josh Sims is struggling to make the breakthrough at Southampton and could do with a change of scene.

He had a loan spell at Reading earlier this season where he gained experience, playing seven times.

Rangers might be able to get a loan deal for the 22-year-old at the very least.

Sam Gallagher

Striker Gallagher needs a fresh start and Rangers might be able to land the 23-year-old.

He has not made a Premier League start this season.

Gallagher  represented Scotland at under-19 level but has since switched allegiance to England.
