Plot details for The Conjuring 3 have finally surfaced and there’s definitely reason for excitement.

The Conjuring 3 is a film that we’ve been anticipating for quite some time now. Recently, we were a little thrown off to find that James Wan won’t be directing the sequel, despite his defining role on the two previous instalments. The new figure at the helm is Michael Chaves, who will be no stranger to The Conjuring Universe once The Curse of La Llorona arrives in cinemas April 19, 2019. Until then, we won’t exactly know how confident the director is in approaching the third Conjuring film, considering the forthcoming spin-off marks his directorial feature debut.

The film franchise has had its ups and downs since the first film. Wan’s The Conjuring released in 2013 and audiences loved the harmonious blend of old-school scares and modern horror conventions. Fans often cite it as one of the best horror films of the current decade, but of all the films released under the banner since, none are held in such quite high regard. Spin-off’s like Annabelle and The Nun ended up failing to deliver; however, Annabelle: Creation managed to provide viewers with a frightening, enjoyable time in The Conjuring Universe. Despite this, most genre fans still favoured The Conjuring 2, so this upcoming sequel has a lot riding on it.

The Conjuring 3 is set to arrive after The Curse of La Llorona and the third Annabelle instalment, Annabelle Comes Home
The latter will welcome the return of franchise favourites Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who play Ed and Lorraine Warren respectively. These characters have provided both previous Conjuring efforts genuine heart; one of numerous reasons for the films’ success. So, it only seemed right that Farmiga would deliver some exciting news about our return to the supernatural world of the Warren’s.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly on the set of Annabelle Comes Home last Halloween, Farmiga began to look ahead: Conjuring 3 is coming, and it will be a doozy,” she says, confidently. “It will be big. So for me, visiting these characters [in Annabelle Comes Home], it’s like practising your scales and doing a few arpeggios before having to dive deep into the next one. Because the next one is massive.”

We’re certainly intrigued, and fortunately, Bloody Disgusting confirms that the plot will explore the murder case of a man who claims he was possessed by a demon when committing the crimes. It definitely appears to be shaping up nicely, so let’s just hope that The Curse of La Llorona fills us with confidence in Chaves’ directorial authority. The Conjuring 3 is scheduled to arrive September 11, 2020.
