A report has suggested that Everton may already have their replacement for Marcel Brands lined up.

According to a report from the Liverpool Echo, there is a growing feeling that chief European scout Gretar Steinsson could be the man to succeed Marcel Brands when the Dutchman leaves Everton in the future.

Steinsson only moved to Goodison Park in December after working with League One side Fleetwood Town. But it appears that he has already made quite the impression on Merseyside.

The former Bolton defender has already seen his role expanded, according to the Echo, and his ideas for the club's academy have gone down extremely well amongst the Toffees decision-makers.

And the Echo adds that Steinsson is being touted by some as the man that could well end up replacing Brands when the current director of football ends up moving on at some stage in the future.

Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands speaks to the media during a press conference at USM Finch Farm on June 4, 2018 in Halewood, England.

The Echo notes that Brands departed PSV Eindhoven in the summer having left the framework in place to ensure that his replacement was already in place, and it appears that Steinsson could be the man to step up if a similar process takes place at Everton.

After a difficult couple of years for Everton, it is surely a very positive step to have these foundations in place that should ensure that there is a greater chance of building something that can last for several years.

So handing the job to Steinsson when Brands steps aside could be a fantastic way for the club to ensure that their identity does not change when such a key figure ends up departing.
