The Borussia Monchengladbach and Belgium ace "wants to take the next step in his career".
Thorgan Hazard, reported to have previously been on Tottenham Hotspur's radar, looks set to leave Borussia Monchengladbach, according to the Bundesliga club's sporting director Max Eberl.
The 26-year-old, whose brother is Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard, has made 29 appearances for his club in all competition this term, weighing in with an impressive 12 goals and 11 assists, according to Transfermarkt.
Speaking to Monchengladbach's official website, Eberl admitted that the Belgium international - whose contract runs until the summer of 2020 - has confirmed his intention to prove himself away from the Borussia Park.
“He has now told us that he doesn't want to extend his contract and instead wants to take the next step in his career by leaving the club," said Eberl. “Interested parties have to offer us a transfer fee that recognises his worth as an exceptional Bundesliga forward and a regular feature in one of the best national teams in the world.”
According to a report in the Bleacher Report from earlier this year, Hazard was rumoured to be keen on joining Eden in the Premier League, with Spurs understood to be interested in the player, who spent a short time in Chelsea’s academy before moving to Germany.
Het Nieuwsblad stated on Monday that Borussia Dortmund have offered £36million for Hazard, while fellow Belgian outlet DH claims that Liverpool have made a bid for him believed to be higher than that of Dortmund.
With Christian Eriksen's own contract expiring next season, could Spurs potentially cash in on the Denmark international if the stalemate persists and use that money to fund a purchase for Hazard?
Both players are technically gifted, dynamic attacking midfielders who can play either on the wing or through the middle and have a knack for unlocking opposition defences as well as an eye for goal, not to mention plentiful international experience as testament to their class.
Much depends on what happens in terms of Eriksen's own future but in case he does decide to leave N17, Tottenham's reported former target could be one to look at.
