The 27-year-old has been a regular for Aberdeen this season and would add to a competitive Celtic midfield.

His potential arrival could be the last straw for Israeli midfielder Nir Bitton.

Bitton is a five time league champion at Celtic and is bidding to win a sixth.

Except of course this season he has barely been involved.

Bitton has only made six league appearances this season, after struggling with injuries.

He has been more involved under Neil Lennon, but has not featured in any of the last four games.

Bitton is out of contract in 2020, and while he is the same age as Shinnie, his injury record makes him replaceable.

Shinnie has made more than 40 appearances this campaign already and that availability would be him an upgrade on Bitton if he signs.
