Bruce's Owls comfortably beat Forest 3-0 at Hillsborough on Tuesday to climb above the Reds to ninth in the Championship table - despite being without key players Barry Bannan, Sam Hutchinson, Rolando Aarons and Dominic Iorfa.
Wednesday were 17th when Bruce's reign began at the end of January - seven points and as many places behind the side Martin O'Neill had recently inherited.
And, having lost to the Owls, many of a Nottingham Forest persuasion are already calling for another change at the City Ground - with these ones wondering what might have been...
Say what u want about potato head Steve Bruce, he knows how to get teams top end of the table. Somebody that would of been perfect for us with the position we were in when Karanka left #nffc— Woody (@Mister_Forest) 9 April 2019
#nffc fancy picking MON when Steve bruce was free manager with a good championship record standard shit decisions forest— Ben Smith (@ben_smithynffc) 9 April 2019
Maybe we should have looked at Bruce for #nffc imagine if he had started for themthat month earlier !!— WJ (@TheCityGround1) 9 April 2019
Bruce showing how to take control of someone else’s squad and get the best out of them #nffc— Steve Gibson (@Gibbo8) 9 April 2019
Steve Bruce inherited a far more chaotic situation at Sheffield Wednesday and yet they’ve rocketed up the table and hardly lost a game despite it not being ‘his team’ - so this idea MoN needs time as they’re not his players is just bollocks and excuses#NFFC— [AJ]️#FBPE (@YorkshireLad_87) 10 April 2019
Forest should of got Bruce! Not ******* MON! #nffc

It is simply not working out and we’ve gone backwards. I’m not having that it’s not his squad etc etc. Bruce and Dean Smith don’t seem to be having too many problems and inherited teams in a lot worse a position than us in the table. Performances are simply woeful. #nffc— George Thurlby (@loose_tip) 9 April 2019
Sheffield Wednesday's player shortage presented fringe players such as Joey Pelupessy, Marco Matias and the former Nottingham Forest loanee, George Boyd, with opportunities to impress Bruce ahead of what promises to be a busy summer at Hillsborough.
And the trio did not disappoint, with Matias (twice) and Boyd on target.
Would the Sheffield Wednesday boss have been a good appointment for Nottingham Forest?
