Troy Baker has suggested he isn’t the voice of Rhys in Borderlands 3.
The epic Borderlands 3 trailer wowed fans with its billion guns and returning protagonists, but for fans of Tales From The Borderlands the highlight was definitely seeing a glimpse of Troy Baker’s Rhys.
For those who still haven’t played Telltale’s ingenious and underappreciated graphic adventure series, Rhys was Tales From The Borderlands’ main character alongside Laura Bailey’s Fiona.
He was a company man brainwashed into falling head over heels for the legendary Handsome Jack. Well, that was until he became haunted and nearly possessed by the narcissistic and delusional rogue.
In Tales From The Borderlands Rhys was voiced by Troy Baker, but it probably won’t be the same in Borderlands 3.
Troy Baker probably isn’t voicing Rhys in Borderlands 3
Tales From The Borderlands’ main duo, Rhys and Fiona, were voiced by Troy Baker and Laura Bailey. But, according to Troy Baker himself, the returning Rhys will probably be voiced by someone else in Borderlands 3.
Reddit user Josh_J_Anderson recorded and asked Troy Baker at Supanova Melbourne if he was once again the voice of Rhys in Borderlands 3. Baker responded by saying he would love to come back to play Rhys, but he hadn’t been contacted by anyone from Gearbox.
“If Gearbox decides that they’ll let me do it, that’ll be awesome,” said Baker. “I have no idea. There was a possibility that I was gonna be in it, then I saw that epic, epic trailer, and everyone’s like ‘oh my god, there’s Rhys!’ And I went, ‘well, there we go.’”
Baker eventually went on to say it’s about the character rather than himself, and that Gearbox might have hired Matt Mercer (the voice actor who replaced Troy Baker as Kanji in Persona 4: Golden).
Borderlands 3 launches on September 13 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Epic Games store.
