Everton continued their fine recent form as they beat Arsenal 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon, with Phil Jagielka the surprise match-winner.

The Toffees went into the game after two impressive wins in a row, and were looking for another against Arsenal, but had to go in to the game without defender Michael Keane after he dropped out of the side in the warm-up.

Veteran centre back Jagielka had to fill in, but that worked perfectly as he turned the ball home, when Arsenal failed to deal with a Lucas Digne long throw.

Everton were by far the better side throughout, and created a whole host of chances but simply couldn't find the crucial second goal, with Gylfi Sigurdsson particularly guilty of squandering good openings.

Marco Silva's side held out for the win though, meaning they've kept five clean sheets in the last six games, showing real signs of improvement at this late stage in the season.

A number of Everton players caught the eye on Sunday afternoon, but fans have been particularly glowing about playmaker Bernard, who dazzled down the left flank.

The Brazilian was full of flicks and tricks, showing great confidence in the final third, whilst also providing great work rate and defensive input to help the Toffees keep a clean sheet.

Fans now think that Bernard, a summer signing by Marcel Brands last summer, is now coming good on a more consistent basis than earlier this season, and believe he will go on to be a huge player for the club, suggesting that he is the most technically-gifted player at the club since Mikel Arteta.
