Manchester City have been keeping tabs on N’Golo Kante’s situation at Chelsea but are now expected to go all out to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri in the summer, as reported by Goal.

It is no secret that Pep Guardiola is desperate to bring a new deep-lying play-maker to The Etihad as Fernandinho approaches his 34th birthday, having missed out on both Jorginho and Fred to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively.

And Goal reports that City have identified Rodri, who has been labelled the ‘new Sergio Busquets’ because of his excellent reading of the game and impressive passing range, as their number one target.

The Spanish international has stood out since re-joining Atletico from Villarreal in 2018 and the report claims that the Premier League champions are now willing to trigger his £60 million release clause.

Interestingly, the report adds that Manchester City have also been considering a move for Chelsea’s World Cup winner Kante, though a deal that already looked unlikely is now all-but impossible after The Blues were hit with a transfer ban which will strengthen their desire to keep their key players.
