Stephen Elliott has praised Sunderland striker Charlie Wyke on Twitter following his performance against Rochdale on Saturday afternoon.

Sunderland maintained their good run of form in League One with a 2-1 victory over Rochdale away from home at the Crown Oil Arena.

Ian Henderson put the home team in the lead after 28 minutes, but Jack Ross’s side restored parity through Wyke on 56 minutes.

George Honeyman scored the winner for the visiting team in the 89th minute.

Former Sunderland forward Elliott was following the match, and he has praised 26-year-old striker Wyke and 24-year-old midfielder Honeyman.

Wyke joined Sunderland from Bradford City in the summer of 2018 for an initial transfer fee reported by The Sun to be worth £500,000.
