The summer transfer window is still a couple of months away, but rumours are already starting up about both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur.

Both teams should be active this summer. For Everton, they’ve endured a mixed first season under Marco Silva, and director of football Marcel Brands will be hoping to bring in some top talents this summer to help the club progress again.

Spurs have now gone two transfer windows without making a new signing, and it’s clear that boss Mauricio Pochettino needs some reinforcements to take Spurs forward in their new stadium.

Intriguingly though, the teams have been linked with each other’s players. The Sun claim that Everton want Spurs right back Kieran Trippier, whilst the Daily Mail report that Tottenham have been watching Toffees centre back Michael Keane.

With that in mind, the two teams should at least discuss the possibility of a part-exchange deal this summer, even if such swaps are usually hard to pull off in football.

Spurs need English players to help their homegrown quota, and a centre back is needed given questions over Toby Alderweireld’s future. They won’t be signing John Stones or Harry Maguire any time soon, so it makes sense to target Keane, who has kicked on this season after struggling in his first Everton campaign.

Everton are seeking under-25 players under Brands, and Trippier doesn’t fit that bill. However, a move still makes some sense. The Toffees already have a promising young right back in Jonjoe Kenny, and signing another experienced right back – such as Trippier – to compete with Seamus Coleman would allow Everton to get Kenny out on loan for development.

Such a move may free up Everton to get a centre back, such as Kurt Zouma permanently, and Spurs to get in the young right back they want, like Crystal Palace ace Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

It’s a long shot, and Everton may be more reluctant than Spurs, but in an expensive transfer market, it’s at least worth discussing whether a swap can aid both teams this summer.
