The previously prolific pairing hasn’t been seen in 16 months – much to Sheffield Wednesday’s frustration.

Some Sheffield Wednesday supporters are urging Steve Bruce to pair Steven Fletcher and Gary Hooper against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Fletcher was crowned Wednesday’s player of the month for the third successive time earlier this week, despite having missed last Saturday’s draw at Stoke City through injury.

That presented Hooper with a chance to start his first competitive fixture for more than 15 months, and the 31-year-old managed an impressive 69 minutes at the Bet365 Stadium.

According to The Star, Fletcher should be fit for Aston Villa’s visit to Hillsborough, although Rolando Aarons could again miss out for Sheffield Wednesday.

If so, the solution – at least according to the following Owls fans – is obvious…

Saturday sees Bruce face Aston Villa for the first time since they sacked him last October.

The 58-year-old, who led the Villans to the play-off final last season, has yet to lose a single one of his 11 games in charge of Sheffield Wednesday.

Fletcher and Hooper, who formed a prolific partnership throughout 2017, last played together against Hull City in December that year.
