Leeds' lucky escape is laid bare as Fulham reportedly prepare to discard Fabri

Leeds United reportedly wanted to sign Fabri from Premier League strugglers Fulham in January before bringing Kiko Casilla to Elland Road.

Why on earth Leeds United were interested in signing Fabri in the January transfer window is anyone’s guess.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Spanish shot-stopper was on Leeds’ radar with the Championship title-chasers eyeing an experienced goalkeeper to take the pressure off youngster Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

This is despite the fact that Fabri had started just twice since his £5 million move from Besiktas to Fulham last summer( Sky), conceding six times in defeats to Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.

In the end, Leeds completed a far more high-profile signing, landing Kiko Casilla on a free from Real Madrid. And while the flamboyant shot-stopper has his critics, particularly after being sent off against Sheffield United, it is hard to believe that Fabri would have been a better signing.

The former Deportivo glovesman hasn’t made a single appearance for The Cottagers since August, finding himself out of favour despite the club’s well documented defensive failings.

And, according to Fotomac, Fulham have now given Fabri the green light to return to Besiktas in the summer with his very forgettable spell in English football coming to an end.
