Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has enjoyed an outstanding season, but has been linked with the Ibrox exit.

While Alfredo Morelos may have let Rangers down at the weekend, one player did everything possible to try and guide the Gers to what would have been one of the most unlikely victories against their bitter rivals.

Ryan Kent was outstanding, particularly in the second-half. Every time the winger got onto the ball, he looked to make something happen, and it was his stunning solo run that saw Rangers equalise and largely silence Parkhead.

In fact, at that stage of the contest, it was the Gers who looked most likely to go on and get the winner, and it was only after a terrible defensive mistake that Celtic managed to score the decisive goal.

Kent proved that he is the kind of game-changer that Steven Gerrard needs to be targeting this summer. Unfortunately, it had appeared that the Gers’ hopes of keeping the Liverpool ace on a permanent basis had been dashed, with the Daily Record reporting last week that his parent club wanted between £8 million and £10 million for his signature.

But Rangers have now found out exactly how to fund a potential move for Kent – and it is all down to the Old Firm game.

Morelos’ red card left a lot of fans suggesting that this summer is the right time to sell the Colombian. His goalscoring return is sensational, but his disciplinary record is just as eye-catching, and it seems that he is not learning from his mistakes when it comes to keeping his cool.

In fairness to Morelos, he does seem to get treated differently to other players by referees in certain situations, but he also does not help himself at times. So if Rangers receive a considerable offer for the striker in the summer, perhaps Gerrard will be tempted to consider it a lot more than he would have done in the days after he signed a new contract at Ibrox.

If Rangers are offered anything like £20 million for the youngster – Sky Sports recently suggested that was his asking price amid Leicester City and Borussia Dortmund interest – then they should certainly consider accepting that bid. That money could fund a move for Kent and leave more than enough in the kitty for a marquee striker addition.

Keeping Morelos would not be a bad move at all. But Morelos’ and Kent’s contrasting fortunes on Sunday have certainly left Gerrard with a decision to ponder heading into the summer.
