Diego Laxalt has made just five Serie A starts for AC Milan so could he be on his way to the Premier League to join Newcastle United?

Newcastle United may have been handed a second chance to sign the Uruguayan international Diego Laxalt with the summer transfer window looming large on the horizon.
After impressing during the World Cup with his tenacity and speed from left-back, Laxalt was handed his big break with a £16 million switch to AC Milan from Serie A rivals Genoa. But his spell at the San Siro has hardly gone to plan.
Laxalt has made just five Serie A starts all season. And Calciomercato is reporting that the 26-year-old is ‘destined to leave’ this summer with Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso clearly not a fan.
With Newcastle’s long-running left-back problems showing no signs of ending, they have just been gift-wrapped an opportunity.

Calciomercato claimed in January that the Magpies had initiated talks with Laxalt’s agent but failed to lure the South American to Tyneside.
By the end of the transfer window, Antonio Barreca had arrived from Monaco but it seems very unlikely that the Italian will be signed on a permanent basis after failing to impress Rafa Benitez.
Newcastle will need a new left-back then. Fortunately, Laxalt could be available.
