Jak Alnwick is away on loan from Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox club Glasgow Rangers at the moment.
Jak Alnwick at Rangers
Alnwick joined Rangers from Port Vale in January 2017 for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £250,000.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper struggled to make a huge impact at Ibrox and has been on loan at Scunthorpe United in League One in England since the summer of 2018.
Rangers signed Allan McGregor in the summer of 2018, and the Scottish goalkeeper has established himself as the first choice between the posts for the Gers.
Alnwick’s current contract with Rangers runs until 2020, and the goalkeeper has suggested that he wants to be part of Steven Gerrard’s side next season.
Alnwick told The Scottish Sun: “Allan McGregor has been brilliant this season. If you take away Alfredo Morelos then Greegsy would be Player of the Year, so it would have been hard for me to play regularly.
“I will speak to the club in the summer about what happens next. Rangers are a fantastic club and I’m sure I could learn a lot being around Greegsy every day.”
Future at Rangers?
With McGregor playing brilliantly for Rangers at the moment, it is hard to see Gers manager Gerrard changing his first-choice goalkeeper next season.
Alnwick is a good player who can improve in the coming years, and it will not be a bad idea for the former Newcastle United goalkeeper to stay at Ibrox next season and learn from McGregor.
