Arsenal are reportedly keen on Inter Milan's sporting director.
The Gunners are already being linked with summer targets after a solid if unspectacular first season under Unai Emery, but a different move may need to come first.
Following Sven Mislintat's abrupt exit, Arsenal need a sporting director to head up their recruitment, and one target has already slipped through the net.
Arsenal had targeted Spaniard Monchi, but he explained to Sky Sports why he snubbed the club in order to return to Sevilla following his sacking at Roma.
Monchi reuniting with Emery was supposed to be the plan after their work together at Sevilla, but Arsenal must now look to alternatives – and Ausilio is in the mix.
FC Inter News claim Arsenal want Ausilio, having become one of the most highly-regarded directors in football, overseeing the signings of players like Ivan Perisic, Marcelo Brozovic, Matias Vecino, Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Radja Nainggolan, Lautaro Martinez and Keita Balde.
Ausilio would certainly be an exciting addition at Arsenal, and give fans hope of a major summer window, but the Gunners could yet be hit by Monchi's move again.
That's because the report notes that Roma also want Ausilio, lining him up as the successor to Monchi – and that would be rubbing salt into the wound for Arsenal.
