Michael Owen made a return to Liverpool at the weekend to feature in a charity game against AC Milan.
The Mail report that Owen was booed by fans at Anfield as he was brought on for John Aldridge.
Owen has never been forgiven by fans for joining rivals Manchester United in 2009 on a free transfer after his deal at Newcastle expired.
Owen left Liverpool in 2004 to join Real Madrid. His spell in Spain lasted just one year.
The former England striker sent a message to fans after his Anfield appearance, and chose to ignore the fact he was booed.
Great to get a win today but more important to help raise lots of money for the @LFCFoundation— michael owen (@themichaelowen) March 23, 2019
Thanks to all the fans who turned out in their thousands as always.
Typical Stevie to get the winner - you couldn't write the script
This is not the first time Owen has received a negative reaction from Liverpool crowds, having also been jeered at a similar event last year.
There were some positive messages to Owen in his replies.
Owen famously scored twice to lead the Reds to FA Cup victory over Arsenal in 2001.

Ignore the boos from the minority.
For many of us (me included), you will always be a childhood hero and one of the reasons we fell in love with the game and LFC
Well done Michael, thanks for supporting the foundation and ignore the minority, proper Reds know what you gave us.....YNWA— Rob Blake (@blakeyboy86) March 23, 2019
