Southampton will surely get rid of Fraser Forster this summer.

Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has kicked on this season, but that doesn’t mean the Bhoys should completely rule out the possibility of signing another goalkeeper this summer.

Craig Gordon may well fancy a move in the final years of his deal, given that he’s sat as second fiddle at Celtic at the age of 36, and the Bhoys would be wise to list some potential targets between the sticks.

If interim manager Neil Lennon gets the job permanently, which many expect him to, then it would be little surprise to see Fraser Forster pop up on the radar.

Forster’s current situation is far from ideal. He has been completely frozen out at Southampton, failing to be picked for a first-team game since December 2017.

After more than a year on the sidelines, Forster should be looking to leave this summer, and Southampton will surely look to move him on – despite his deal only ending in 2022.

The 31-year-old was a hero at Celtic though, playing four seasons under Lennon as their undoubted first-choice stopper, and a return to Parkhead could resurrect his career.

Lennon knows exactly how good Forster can be, and whilst Bain has been solid enough, a reunion with Forster may be hugely appealing given his evident availability.

Lennon may well choose to stick with Bain having signed him for Hibernian, but there appears to be a chance to bring Forster back to Parkhead – and it should at least be explored by the Bhoys.
