Everton are reportedly starting to monitor Alex Grimaldo as they brace themselves for interest in Lucas Digne.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (24/3; page 59), Everton are starting to make checks on Alex Grimaldo as the Toffees prepare themselves for interest in Lucas Digne this summer.
Digne has arguably been a fantastic signing for Marco Silva’s men. The Frenchman has provided a constant threat down the left-wing and has been one of Everton’s most prolific chance creators during his time on Merseyside.
However, The Sun on Sunday (24/3; page 59) reports that Everton are wary of receiving ‘big bids’ for Digne – who cost £18 million last summer (via Guardian) – and are now monitoring Grimaldo.
The report suggests that the 23-year-old would cost around £20 million, but is also being tracked by Italian clubs while Benfica are hoping to convince him to stay by offering him a bumper new deal.

Grimaldo has scored four goals and provided six assists in the top flight for Benfica, while he has also scored twice in the Champions League this season. He certainly offers the same attacking mindset that Digne provides.
For a left-back to have a direct hand in 12 goals across the league and Champions League is a stunning return. So Grimaldo’s form certainly hints that he would be able to fill the void that Digne would leave if the Toffees did decide to let him move on after just one year.
