Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in signing winger Gavin Massey from Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic.
Wigan Athletic’s executive chairman Darren Royle has admitted they want to keep Gavin Massey at the club amid links with Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers, while speaking to Wigan Today.
The 26-year-old winger has been a bright spark in a difficult season for the Latics, scoring three Championship goals for Paul Cook’s relegation threatened side.
But, with his contract expiring in July, speculation has raged about Massey’s future with the Daily Mail reporting that Nottingham Forest and QPR are keen to snap the former Watford youngster up on a free.
However, Wigan will not let one of their key players, albeit one who has struggled with injuries this season, go without a fight.
Speaking to Wigan Today, Royle has confirmed that keeping Massey at the DW Stadium is a top priority.
“(Gavin) is obviously a great guy, someone we greatly value and want to keep at the club,” Royle said while adding that Wigan are hopeful of tying down influential play-maker Nick Powell, too.
Fortunately for the Latics, the Mail added that Massey would be keen to stay if they can avoid an immediate return to League One.
But with nothing agreed just yet, do not expect Forest or QPR to give up so easily.
