The Gers ace has been a regular part of Barton's plans at Highbury this season. Holt has started Fleetwood Town's last three games, but had been in and out of the side over the previous five games.
And Holt marked his recent revival with a goal in the 2-0 win against Plymouth Argyle at the weekend. And Barton suggested that he has been extremely impressed since he has regained his spot in the starting lineup.
“He has had a tough spell and came out the team. Since he has gone back in his energy levels have been superb," he said, as reported by Fleetwood Today.
“I’m delighted for him to get the goal. Whatever people think of him, he is something who gives everything he has got in every single training session, every single week. Players like that are a delight to have. For him to get the goal and get us on that march to settling into the game I was really pleased for him."
Unfortunately for Holt, he arguably needs to be doing more if he wants to return to his parent club in a considerably better position in the pecking order in the summer.
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard already has a large cluster of central midfielders in his squad, while the likes of Greg Docherty and Jordan Rossiter are also out on loan and are certainly catching the eye.
If Holt can finish the campaign on a high, there is clearly no reason to write him off getting another chance with the Gers ahead of next season. And the 26-year-old will be hoping that his recent return to form proves to be the catalyst for the kind of run that catches Gerrard's eye.
