Nahitan Nandez shone for Uruguay in the Russia World Cup but will he choose Championship outfit Leeds United over Serie A sides?
Leeds United are keen on an ambitious deal for the Uruguayan World Cup star Nahitan Nandez, according to Tuttomercatoweb.
The 23-year-old impressed alongside the likes of Lucas Torreira, Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani over in Russia as Uruguay reached the quarter-finals, only to lose to eventual champions France.
In total, Nandez has earned 20 caps from his country and is currently still playing in South America for Boca Juniors. For how much longer, however, is anyone’s guess.
TMW reports that Nandez is on the radar of a number of Serie A clubs. Sampdoria and Fiorentina are interested and so too are Cagliari, who have already held talks about a deal that would bring the dynamic midfielder to Italy.
But Leeds are also allegedly in the race, although the chances are that Marcelo Bielsa’s side would have to be playing Premier League football to both afford Nandez and lure him to Elland Road.
South American radio station Continental (broadcast on ClossAm, 26 July, 6;00pm) claimed last year that Nandez had a £12 million release clause in his contract with Newcastle United then interested.
Such a fee would make him Leeds’ most expensive signing since Robbie Fowler arrived in 2001.
