Jed Steer looks to be staying at Aston Villa for another year.

Aston Villa are in fine form right now, winning four games in a row to catapult themselves into the Championship play-off places.

Jack Grealish's return from injury has been a key factor, but so has goalkeeper Jed Steer, who has impressed between the sticks.

The 26-year-old has been featuring regularly since the middle of February, earning a rare run in the side having spent the first half of the season on loan at Charlton Athletic.

Steer has come in for Lovre Kalinic, and whilst he hasn't had tons of work thanks to the strong defence in front of him, he's been solid in the Villa goal.

The Express and Star now report that Steer will be signing a new one-year extension at Villa Park, preventing him from being out of contract this summer.

Steer has a chance to nail down a first-team spot, but that has left fans to question the big-money January signing of Lovre Kalinic given that he's already been benched in favour of Steer.

Fans have taken to Twitter to voice their opinions, with some feeling that the signing of Kalinic was 'daft' and ultimately not worth the wait, as Villa seemingly had a solid goalkeeper on their books already.

Others think that Kalinic will still prove to be the first-choice goalkeeper moving forward, but the decision to start and keep Steer means some are worried that Villa have made a mistake by signing the Croatian just two months ago.
