Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tottenham Hotspur’s Kieran Trippier will be battling for England’s right-back spot.

Emile Heskey is adamant that ‘phenomenal’ Tottenham defender Kieran Trippier is ahead of Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold in England’s pecking order.
The Premier League duo will be fighting for a right-back spot when Gareth Southgate decides on his final starting XI for the Three Lions up and coming Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Trippier is the senior man and he was one of England’s best players at last summer’s World Cup. But highly-rated youngster Alexander-Arnold is also showcasing his talent for a Liverpool side vying for the title this season.
Speaking to the Football Centre on Sky Sports News (18/03/2019 at 12:25 pm), Heskey was asked out of the right-backs Southgate has to choose from, who is currently in line to start.
“It swings in roundabouts doesn’t it,” Heskey told Sky Sports News. “I would probably say Trippier is still ahead of Trent. He’s ahead of them. He’s had a phenomenal season. To see where he has come from as well. And if you look at the start of the season, I don’t think he started too well and he wasn’t starting many games.”
Trippier and Alexander-Arnold are not the only ones who can play in the right full-back position. Manchester City’s Kyle Walker could feature ahead of them both.

However, Southgate has played him in a back three, but during England’s last international matches, he deployed a back four which makes it even harder for him to pick who starts.
Either way, England are blessed in that area and they will be looking to prove their worth when they take on the Czech Republic on home soil before travelling to Montenegro.
