West Ham United and Newcastle United are competing to sign the ‘new Mesut Ozil’ this summer, according to Turkish Football.

A technically gifted central midfielder who can also play out wide like the Arsenal number ten, Erkan Eyibil has been turning heads with some outstanding performances for Mainz’s reserve team in recent times.

The teenager, who could play for Germany or Turkey at senior international level, has emerged as one of the most exciting youngsters in the Bundesliga. In total, Eyibil has 12 goals and five assists in just 18 games for Mainz’s youth sides this season.

And, with just one year left on his contract, it seems that Mainz could be about to lose one of their prize assets.

Newcastle and West Ham are just two of many clubs all over Europe who are interested with Eyibil likely to be offered his chance in the Premier League when the summer transfer window opens.

If Eyibil turns out to be half as good as Ozil, a former Real Madrid midfielder who has won 92 caps for Germany, he will be a fine signing for either Newcastle or West Ham.
