Scottish Premiership powerhouses Rangers want Millwall defender Mahlon Romeo – but so do Premier League outfit West Ham United.

As Mahlon Romeo himself pointed out on Twitter, football can be a cruel game at times.

The right-back shone in Millwall’s FA Cup quarter-final clash with Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday, producing a performance full of character and real quality. He barely gave The Seagulls £17 million winger Alireza Jahanbahksh a sniff all afternoon while he was a constant presence at the other end of the field too.

It was the sort of performance that explains why Romeo has attracted the attention of Rangers and West Ham United, according to The Express.

But Romeo’s afternoon was to end in heartbreak. After such an impressive display, he really didn’t deserve to miss from the spot as Millwall lost on penalties to their Premier League opponents.

Nonetheless, the response from Millwall fans on Twitter speaks volumes. No one was blaming the Antigua and Barbuda international.

And if scouts from Rangers and West Ham were watching, they surely won’t have been put off. On this evidence, Romeo could bring plenty of quality to Ibrox or the London Stadium next season. Just don’t put him on penalty duty.
