James Rodriguez scored his first hat-trick in eight years this weekend, just days after El Confidencial suggested that he could be on his way to Liverpool for £51 million.
The Colombian international is facing an uncertain future with less than two months remaining in the 2018/19 season.
Bayern Munich have the option to sign him permanently at the end of a two-year loan from Real Madrid. But it remains to be seen whether they will take up the chance, given that Rodriguez has been in and out of Niko Kovac’s side.
A return to Real seems to be off the cards too since the return of Zinedine Zidane, who famously omitted the former Porto play-maker from the 2017 Champions League final.
El Confidencial reported on Friday that the Spanish giants would prefer to sell Rodriguez to for around £51 million. Don Balon broke the news at the start of the year that he was on Liverpool’s radar.
Jurgen Klopp would surely jump at the chance to snap him up after James’ outstanding individual performance on Sunday. He hit a hat-trick to inspire Bayern’s 6-0 thrashing of Mainz, his first treble since 2011 for Porto against Vitoria Guimaraes.
As a result, Bayern retained their place at the top of the Bundesliga with James producing his best performance in German football.
