Every cameo appearance from the legendary comic book writer

Over the past 11 years, Marvel's Cinematic Universe has grown into an all-conquering giant of the film industry with millions of fans worldwide.

One of the key aspects to any film in the MCU has to be the cameo from Stan Lee. In all 21 films in the MCU so far, Marvel comics' Stan Lee has made a brief appearance and it's something film fans always look out for when watching a new Marvel movie.

The tradition of Lee appearing in Marvel films has been around for years, with Lee even appearing in films as early as 2000's X-Men.

However, it's in Marvel's MCU where Stan Lee's cameo presence is best known.

His appearance began as small easter eggs that only dedicated fans might notice but now his cameos often involve a moment of light comedic relief and everyone in the cinema is on the lookout for his iconic mustachioed face.

Iron Man (2008)

Stan Lee's first appearance in the MCU came in 2008's Iron Man

Upon entering a Stark Industries event, Tony walks past Stan Lee and mistakes him for Hugh Hefner due to Lee's dressing gown attire and attractive company.

Incredible Hulk (2008)

Lee appeared once again in 2008's Incredible Hulk. He's the subject of a discussion between Thaddeus Ross and one of his staff as Lee drinks some neon yellow soda that leaves him with 'gamma sickness.'

Iron Man 2 (2010)

Iron Man 2 features one of the shortest Stan Lee cameos in a brief point-of-view shot from the eyes of Tony Stark that catches a glimpse of Stan Lee at the Stark Expo and once again mistakes his identity, believing Lee to be talk show host Larry King.

This clip also features a very young Peter Parker, donning an Iron Man mask.

Thor (2011)

After Thor's hammer comes crashing down to Earth, Lee is part of a group of people who try to lift Mjlonir out of its massive crater.

Their efforts don't quite go to plan as Stan Lee's pick-up truck is destroyed in trying to winch Thor's hammer out of the crater.

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

In Captain America's first outing, Stan Lee is seen as a US Army General and is attending a press conference which Cap fails to attend.

The Avengers (2012)

Following the climactic events of 2012's Avengers: Assemble, Stan Lee is seen playing chess on a news programme, debunking the idea of the Avengers after Loki's failed invasion saying "Superheroes in New York? Give me a break."

Iron Man 3 (2013)

In Iron Man 3, Stan Lee makes an appearance at a beauty pageant, giving the woman on stage a '10' while Tony Stark sneaks into the event.

Thor: The Dark World (2013)

Stan Lee's cameo in Thor: The Dark World sees Stan Lee play a mental patient who lends his shoes to Stellan Skarsgard's Erik Selvig as he tries to explain 'the convergence.'

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Lee's appearance in 2014's The Winter Soldier is one of his more comedic appearance. He's a security guard at the museum where Captain America's old uniform is kept. But when Cap reclaims his suit, Stan Lee's character realises it could get him fired.

Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

Stan Lee appears early on in Guardians of the Galaxy and is spotted by Rocket Raccoon. In his brief cameo, Lee is shown flirting with a much younger woman.

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

In the second outing for the Avengers, Lee is shown as a WWII veteran who ends up rather legless after drinking some Asgardian alcohol.

Lee's cameo in Age of Ultron is worth taking note of especially as Lee uses his trademark 'excelsior' line.

Ant-Man (2015)

Lee's cameo in Ant-Man bares all the hallmarks of Edgar Wright's involvement in the film. In one of the scenes where Scott Lang's co-convict Luis explains how he heard something on the grape vine, as it were, Stan Lee makes an appearance as a bartender.

Captain America: Civil War (2016)

Stan Lee appears right at the very end of Civil War. As Tony Stark is helping Rhodey with his recovery after breaking his spine, Stan Lee cameos as a FedEx delivery man and misreads Tony Stark's name as 'Tony Stank.'

Doctor Strange (2016)

In Doctor Strange, Stan Lee appears as an amused and oblivious bus passenger while Doctor Strange is trying to fight off an attack from the villainous Kaecilius.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

Lee's appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is perhaps the most important as he reveals to a group of aliens known as 'The Watchers' that he has travelled through time to appear in all of the MCU films and that all his cameos are connected.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

Another cameo where Stan Lee shows off his flirtatious side. While Spider-Man accosts a man who appears to be stealing a car, Lee is seen chatting up one of his neighbours.

Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

Taika Waititi's Thor: Ragnarok is widely regarded as the funniest and downright silliest movie in the MCU.

And of course, Stan Lee's cameo is no different as he plays a servent to Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster who has been instructed to cut Thor's trademark golden hair.

Black Panther (2018)

In 2018's Black Panther, Lee makes a brief appearance in the Korean casino and takes T'Challa's chips after the Wakandan wins a round of roulette.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018)

In the biggest MCU movie to date, Stan Lee makes his brief appearance as a bus driver who's taking Peter Parker and his classmates on a school trip.

Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

During the film's climactic car chase scene, Lee is seen about to get into his car before his vehicle is shrunk right before his eyes by one of Hank Pym's shrink discs.

Captain Marvel (2019)

Captain Marvel is the first MCU film to release since the great comic book writer's death in November 2018.

His posthumous appearance sees him sat on the train where Captain Marvel fights the Skrull posing as the old woman as seen in the film's trailers.

Captain Marvel is particularly special as Stan Lee's cameos are re-worked into the Marvel logo at the start of the film in place of the Avengers with the touching message 'Thank You, Stan' appearing on screen before the film gets underway.

Stan Lee is due to make two more cameo appearances in 2019's Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

After Spider-Man: Far From Home, it won't be the same going into an MCU movie without having the legendary comic writer to look out for.
