The Liverpool midfielder has just over two years remaining on his current deal.
The Dutch midfielder joined the Reds from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016, for a fee believed to be worth £25 million, and he has gone on to rack up 10 goals and 16 assists in 127 appearances in all competitions.
A lot of the good work that Wijnaldum does often goes unnoticed, however, and many Liverpool fans will tell you just how important he is to Jürgen Klopp's side.
The 28-year-old's current deal with the Merseyside outfit runs until the summer of 2021, and he told the Liverpool Echo how he hasn't heard anything from he club yet regarding the potential of a new contract:
"No, I did not speak with the club yet. That is something for the club. I will see what happens. I signed a five-year contract and I am still under contract. I just do my job to perform. A new contract has to come from the club."
The Holland international has proven his quality for Liverpool over a consistent period of time, and it will surely not be long before the Merseyside outfit approach the midfielder with fresh terms on a new deal.
