Chris Kirkland suggested on the EFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football on Thursday evening (7pm, March 14, 2019) that Sheffield Wednesday are in the running for the Championship playoffs this season.
Wednesday are 11th in the Championship table at the moment with 52 points from 37 matches.
Steve Bruce’s side are just four points behind sixth-placed Derby County, and former Wednesday goalkeeper Kirkland believes that the Owls can end up in the top six this campaign.
While discussing the Championship playoff race this season, Kirkland said on the EFL Matters show on Sky Sports Football on Thursday evening (7pm, March 14, 2019): “I think you can go all the way down to Sheffield Wednesday.”
Wednesday’s recent form and results have been impressive, and with Derby just four points above them in sixth, the Owls do indeed have a chance of breaking into the top six.
Bruce is one of the best managers in the Championship, and the former Villa boss knows how to get teams promoted to the Premier League.
Wednesday do have a good team, and perhaps Bruce will be able to guide the Owls into the Championship playoffs this campaign.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Blackburn Rovers at home in the Championship.
