The Arsenal man didn't seem to be at it against Rennes last night.
Arsenal progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Europa League after last night's 3-0 win over Rennes at the Emirates, but some Gunners fans were still not satisfied, criticising Mesut Ozil for his performance against the Ligue 1 outfit.
The 30-year-old is an extremely divisive figure at the Emirates, having moved to Arsenal in the summer of 2013 from Real Madrid in a deal believed to be worth £42.5 million.
Ozil has racked up 42 goals and 74 assists in 221 appearances for the Gunners, yet he is often criticised for his perceived lack of effort, passion and commitment to the cause.
The German is Arsenal's highest paid player, earning around £350,000 per week, and because of that, the north London outfit's fanbase expect to see match-winning displays from him week-in, week-out.
Ozil was far from his best against Rennes last night, and many Arsenal fans took to Twitter, slamming the 30-year-old for his performance...
Anybody notice @MesutOzil1088 reaction when @Ains_7 scores? no cheer or happiness when it goes in. Don't wanna be a wet flannel on a great night but he lacks the passion I thought he would have esp when he gives it all the proud to be a gunner thing. #afc #arsenal @Arsenal #COYG— Alan (@Gooner_al_1886) 15 March 2019
I don't know if Emery got it right from the start - he certainly got the subs spot on. Ozil was poor and lacked any sort of influence while Lacazette lacked composure. When Mkhi and Iwobi came on, Rennes had no answer. #afc— Adi Meiri (@MeiriAdi) 14 March 2019
Get out of my club Ozil. Shocking again tonight, no passion or fight #ARSREN— Stephen George Lott (@stephenlott) 15 March 2019
COYG! Let's qualified to the next round! Great half by Aubameyang and Maitland- Niles!— V3ndetta (@V3ndetta_) 14 March 2019
I'm a little bit disappointed by Ozil and Ramsey appearances.#COYG #ARSREN #Arsenal #afc #aubameyang #Europaleague
For all his flaws, Mesut Ozil’s biggest is the way in which he constantly gives away needless fouls by backing in or nudging the opposition when they go to win a header. It’s so unnecessary #AFC— James Dodd (@JamesDoddFOX) 14 March 2019
Ozil coming off sulking again didn't even bother to applaud the crowd.— Danny Marquiss (@Danny_Marquiss) 14 March 2019
When you're waiting for some Arsenal fans to admit Ozil's game influence has dwindled and he hardly justifies his wage pic.twitter.com/8dRyiiQ2F8— Castano Yemi Dada (@YemiCastano) 14 March 2019
Ozil giving up on the situation shows his poor attitude.— 24/7 Arsenal (@247Arsenal1) 14 March 2019
Kudos to Maitland niles for not switching off like our captain?
Ozil is suppose to be a leader and gives up on the ball it's pathetic.
Anyway get another goal We are playing well!
