Zombieland: Double Tap promises fans another slice of horror comedy with the same old gang.

Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland released back in 2009 and told the story of an unlikely band of mismatched misfits surviving the zombie apocalypse together. Audiences were won over by the film’s harmonious balance of comedy and horror, striking a delightful compromise without one ever having to dimish the other. Since its release, Zombieland has arguably become somewhat of a cult film, inspiring many to adopt the film as a personal favourite.

In the horror community, it’s commonplace to discover that fans quote the film regularly. More often than this, you’d have found fans pining for a sequel – one of which it looked like we’d never get until the announcement of Zombieland: Double Tap. It seems that the crew thought it would be a terrific idea to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the film by releasing a brand new outing.

Fortunately, the central ensemble will be reprising their roles; Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin. It’s great to hear that the performers are so enthusiastic about the project, speaking of the experience fondly in interviews. In an interview with Movie Web, Eisenberg began to discuss the project further: ”It’s going really well, just resting on our laurels and really cocky,” he laughs. ”…We’re working so hard. It’s one of these movies that, people loved it for personal reasons. So it’s not just a big hit movie. People love it for personal reasons so you want to make sure it’s as funny and as personal as the other one.”

It’s humbling to hear that the cast and crew are sculpting the film with the audience foremost in mind, as it is a film that many cherish. We’re all really curious to see how Fleischer decides to follow up on the narrative events of the first film. It will definitely be important to convey how much time has passed since Zombieland concluded, and what improvements – if any – have been made of their situation. Nevertheless, with the old gang returning and working hard, we can rest assured that Zombieland: Double Tap will be an entertaining, hilarious ride. Expect plenty of new rules when it lands on October 11, 2019.
