The Charlie's Angels remake is on the way and its shaping up to be something special.
Charlie's Angels has long been a popular name with audiences. The TV series - courtesy of ABC - began in the seventies and ran for five seasons and a total of one-hundred and ten episodes. Critics weren't so taken with the show, and it was often dubbed ”Jiggle TV”, which referred to the series' focus on the sex appeal of its female leads. Indeed, this can be considered the case, but audiences loved the show and facilitated its lifespan between 1976 and 1981.
Decades later, the property reemerged in the form of the 2000 film, Charlie's Angels. The action-comedy was, again, met with mixed critical reviews. However, audiences appeared to enjoy what the stars - Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu - brought to the roles, approaching the McG-directed popcorn flick with the right amount of humour. The audience spoke, and the film spawned a sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, in 2003.
Since then, the property has lain dormant in Hollywood. ABC did attempt to reboot it as a series in 2011 but swiftly cancelled the project as a result of low ratings. When a feature-film remake was announced, it was met with sighs. However, the film has gradually attracted intrigue from potential audience thanks to the talent attached.
