New "Avengers: Endgame" trailer places curious emphasis on Ant-Man

Endgame

Narrative twists continue to be kept under wraps, but this new trailer hints toward a more significant role for Ant-Man

WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War.

With seemingly zero warning, Marvel Studios has just released a trailer for Avengers: Endgameahead of the film's release next month.

As can be seen in the trailer, Endgame will continue straight on from the events of Avengers: Infinity War, in which Thanos wiped out half of the universe's population.

By now, it's almost impossible to ignore the fact that Endgame is one of the most anticipated films of 2019, if not the most. Marvel teased fans with a snippet of the movie in a TV spot during the Super Bowl in February, which featured brief glimpses of the surviving heroes who'll be taking on Thanos next month - including a beardless Captain America and thoroughly bearded Thor.

But with Captain Marvel now out (and having done exceedingly well at the box-office), several fans are wondering just where the hero will fit in the proceedings of Endgame.

But the movie set to release next month, Marvel seem very interested in keeping the hero's involvement under wraps, and there's not too much more this new trailer can tell us about Captain Marvel's role in Endgame, other than that she will indeed cross paths with Thor and the other remaining heroes. Similarly to the Super Bowl TV spot, this trailer incorporates footage from earlier movies such as The First Avenger and Infinity War's soul-splitting ending.

Regardless, the trailer does a great job of uniting its remaining heroes as they gear up to face Thanos' formidable tyranny - from Black Widow, to Hawkeye, to Rocket Raccoon.

Ant-Man in particular features twice in the trailer, which also suggests the character could feature significantly in Endgame. Indeed, as one post-credit sequence in Ant-Man and The Wasp tells us, Scott Lang was shrunken down in the Quantum Realm when the pivotal wipeout scene occurred in Infinity War. With such the case, is there any possibility we might see Marvel team up with Lang to turn the tables for The Avengers?

While, of course, this is just a theory, Inverse recently reported that a new Avengers: Endgame synopsis hinted toward a bigger task for both Captain Marvel and Ant-Man, quoting an oddly spoilerific description by Atom Tickets. In the interest of avoiding spoilers here, you can find that story here.

In any case, it won't be long until we know for sure.
