The Madejski Stadium played host to Jose Gomes's side and Marcelo Bielsa's charges, two teams at different ends of the table, and it didn't take long for the visitors to draw first blood.
In the 14th minute, Mateusz Klich opened the scoring when he connected with Luke Ayling's delivery - dummied by Patrick Bamford - to slot beyond Reading goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Pablo Hernandez then weighed in with two goals to leave the Royals three down at the break, and the hosts couldn't muster a reply come the full time whistle, which saw Leeds back up to the top of the table and the Berkshire side remain 19th in the standings.
Reading defender Moore took to Twitter to bemoan his side's performance, albeit against a "good" Leeds side, and banged the drum ahead of Saturday's trip to Stoke City:
We didn’t play well tonight and was punished by a good Leeds side. Dust ourselves down and go again Saturday. Thanks for the support @ReadingFC— Liam Moore (@liammoore93) March 12, 2019
Some Royals fans responded by suggesting Moore and his teammates didn't necessarily play badly, just that Leeds were too strong:
Honestly, I don’t think we were that bad. 3 brilliant goals from Leeds who showed why they are top of the league. All about Saturday now - stay positive— ElmParkRoyals (@ElmParkRoyals) March 12, 2019
Team did fine, Leeds are a decent side. Move on and focus on Saturday. That tackle in the first half on the touchline of the east stand was masterful given you dislocated a shoulder 3 days ago!— Alex Everson (@Readingfanman) March 12, 2019
They were easily the best side I’ve seen at the madstad this season, much as it pains me to say it. Hope the lads are inspired as to what can be achieved by a combo of pace, fitness and accuracy. Leeds had it in spades and could conceivably emulate Wolves if promoted. No disgrace— Rob McEwan (@robmcewan1966) March 12, 2019
I thought we were unlucky. One goal a slip and two worldies. Need to try and add the cutting edge. Forget tonight and prepare for stoke.— Craig White (@craigwhite1980) March 12, 2019
They were a very good side and the injury list isn’t helping us. The team wasn’t bad and that wasn’t embarrassing by a long shot, forget about it and move on stronger to the Stoke game. We’ve got this. #URZ— Nogg Harris (@HarrisNogg) March 12, 2019
Let's be honest they were the best team we have seen this season and they will get promoted we played really well in the second half keep the spirit up and let's get a result on Saturday— Michael Bassett (@madmick51) March 13, 2019
