The Celta Vigo striker would be an excellent addition for Liverpool.
According to a report from the Mirror, Celta Vigo striker Maxi Gomez could be available for just £22 million in the summer, should the La Liga outfit get relegated this season, and Liverpool cannot afford to miss out not he Uruguayan striker for that price.
The Reds have one of the most dangerous front-lines in world football, but questions have been asked of Roberto Firmino this season, after the Brazilian has failed to rediscover his form from last term.
Complacency could have set in for Firmino, and Liverpool should certainly be looking for a new number nine before the start of next season, in order to provide more completion for the 27-year-old.
And Gomez could be just the ticket for the Reds - especially if he is available for just £22 million.
The 22-year-old is a real powerhouse, and he seems to be ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.
He is strong in the air, proficient when playing with his back to goal, and is lethal when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.
Gomez is entirely different to Firmino, with the Brazilian preferring to drop deep and link up play, so the Uruguay international would provide Jürgen Klopp with an entirely different option through the middle.
Obviously much will still depend on whether Vigo actually get relegated, but if truth be told, Liverpool should attempt to sign the 22-year-old even if the Spanish side avoid the drop, and they have to pay his full £42 million release clause.
Gomez will surely go on to become one of the best strikers in world football, and the Merseyside outfit quite simply cannot afford to miss out on bringing him to Anfield this summer.
