Wes Morgan started Brendan Rodgers’ first game in charge of Premier League Leicester City after the Northern Irishman left Celtic last week.

Brendan Rodgers has compared Leicester City defender Wes Morgan to his former Celtic skipper Scott Brown, speaking to the Mirror (7 March, page 61).
Rodgers spent two and a half years in charge of the Scottish Premiership champions, with Brown one of the first names on his team sheet. The veteran midfielder has been Celtic’s influential skipper for many years, with the 33-year-old still an integral part of the Hoops’ squad.
But, while some have suggested that Brown is past his best, the same accusation has been levelled at Morgan of late.
The 35-year-old lifted the Premier League trophy as Leicester’s captain in 2016, but some have suggested that he should be phased out in favour of youngster Caglar Soyuncu and summer signing Jonny Evans.
Rodgers, however, has made it clear that Morgan still has a part to play in Leicester blue.

“Wes is a wonderful leader. He’s going to be very, very important for me, even if he’s not playing,” said Rodgers.
“Wes can be a really great leader in the changing room, like Scott Brown was at Celtic.”
Tellingly, Morgan played 90 minutes in Rodgers’ first game in charge – Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Watford.
Even if he does find himself falling down the pecking order once Filip Benkovic returns from his loan spell at Celtic, Morgan’s charismatic personality and leadership skills will make him a hugely important ally for Leicester’s new boss.
