Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly enquired about a move for Mauro Icardi.
According to FC Inter News, Tottenham Hotspur have enquired about Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi – but Mauricio Pochettino would only go ahead with a move if Harry Kane ended up leaving.
Icardi, 26, has become one of the biggest strikers in European football since a 2013 move from Sampdoria to Inter, and has previously been in the Barcelona ranks.
The Argentinian has smashed 122 goals in 210 games for Inter, including 29 goals last season and 15 in 28 games so far this term.
There’s a bizarre situation going on with Icardi though, as he was stripped of the captaincy last month, and has been refusing to return to training citing injury, with agent and wife Wanda Nara airing pretty much everything out in public.
That means Inter may well choose to sell Icardi this summer, and a host of clubs are bound to be interest, with Spurs allegedly one of them.
FC Inter News claim that Spurs, through an intermediary, have enquired about signing Icardi, but won’t be following through with a move just yet, seemingly just gathering information.
It’s added that Pochettino is a big fan of his compatriot, but would only want to launch a bid if Tottenham’s star striker Harry Kane ended up leaving the club.
That seems somewhat unlikely, but if Kane did move on for whatever reason, then signing a big-name striker like Icardi would go some way to appeasing fans.
