West Ham United are reportedly set to sign Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey in the summer.

West Ham plan to make a fresh move for Jonjo Shelvey in the summer, with Newcastle seemingly ready to let the midfielder leave St James’ Park, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 69).
Shelvey has not played for the Magpies first-team in almost two months, and was most recently scoring the winning goal for the under-23s in their clash with Fulham on Friday night.
The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 69) reports that the Hammers made a move for the 27-year-old in January, but Rafa Benitez decided against allowing Shelvey to head to the London Stadium.
However, the report adds that Benitez is now ready to let the midfielder leave, and thus, a £20 million is ‘finally’ set to go through at the end of the campaign with Shelvey set to join his boyhood club.

If Shelvey does join Manuel Pellegrini’s side and finds his best form, the £20 million fee will look like an absolute bargain. When he is at the top of his game, he is a fantastic player to have in the middle of the park.
Unfortunately for West Ham fans, he has fallen right down the pecking order at Newcastle and has probably not provided the number of goals and assists that a player of his calibre should have during his Premier League career.
But with Pellegrini keen in January and apparently still interested heading into the summer, the West Ham boss clearly believes that Shelvey would be a worthwhile addition to a Hammers side that have picked up a number of impressive results in recent weeks.
