Tottenham Hotspur reportedly lead all of their Premier League top six rivals in the race to sign the West Bromwich Albion starlet.

Tottenham are out in front in the battle to sign West Brom youngster Rekeem Harper at the end of the season, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 68).

Harper is making a big impression for the promotion-chasing Baggies. The 18-year-old has made 10 appearances in the Championship for Darren Moore’s side, and he is attracting a lot of attention.

The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 68) reports that all of the Premier League’s top six are tracking the West Brom starlet, but it is Spurs who lead the charge for Harper, who is out of contract in the summer and could move for a compensation fee.

The report adds that the Baggies, unsurprisingly, want to keep Harper at the Hawthorns beyond this campaign, but Mauricio Pochettino believes that the midfielder is already ready to make the jump into the top flight.

Signing Harper – who was born just three days before a Steffen Iversen hat-trick helped Spurs to a 7-2 win against Southampton in March 2000 – has the potential to be a masterstroke given his contract situation.

He already looks more than comfortable at Championship level after only a handful of appearances this term, so it may not be long before he is showing more signs of being a player ready to play at a higher level.

With Tottenham reportedly leading a top six charge to sign the teenager, it would appear that West Brom are under even more pressure to get their promotion push back on track as losing one of their brightest prospects now look as though it could be a real possibility.
