Southampton and Norwich City are both preparing to make summer bids to sign Hull City forward Jarrod Bowen following his outstanding year in the Championship, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (3/3; page 68).
Bowen has been a revelation in the second tier this term. The 22-year-old has scored 18 goals for Nigel Adkins's men despite spending much of the campaign in a wider role. Only five Championship players have scored more goals than the youngster this season.
Ralph Hasenhuttl's men remain in a precarious position in the Premier League table, but their 3-2 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday highlighted how much potential there is within their squad, and it would be a big surprise to see Southampton in their current position when the campaign concludes.
One problem that the Saints must address in the summer however, is the lack of goalscoring forwards in their ranks. Danny Ings has done well with seven goals in 18 league games, but Charlie Austin has scored just twice and Shane Long has only one goal.
Bowen's best position is proving to be out wide on the right rather than through the middle, so he may not address all of their problems. But given his record, he could arguably prove to be an inspired addition in the coming years should Hasenhuttl's men manage to win the race.
