Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 loss to Chelsea on Wednesday night after an excellent Pedro effort and an own goal from Kieran Trippier - but Spurs fans have chosen to criticise Erik Lamela on Twitter.

Lamela, 26, was one of four changes made by Mauricio Pochettino as the Argentina international started alongside Son Heung-min, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane in attack.

But the former AS Roma star proved ineffective for Spurs, as David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta mopped up everything at the back with aplomb. Spurs failed to have a single shot on target.

Pedro gave Chelsea the lead after excellent work down the right flank, turning Toby Alderweireld inside out before squeezing a shot through Hugo Lloris' legs. The second goal was calamitous.

Indeed, Kieran Trippier and Lloris' lack of communication saw the defender pass the ball behind the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Spurs are now nine points behind leaders Liverpool.

Lamela failed to make anything happen and his contribution to the match was ended when Pochettino decided to substitute the winger and bring on target man Fernando Llorente. Spurs fans, though, are fed up with the winger.

He is now in his sixth season at Tottenham after joining the club from Roma for £30million (Guardian) in the summer of 2013. He has since made 183 appearances in all competitions, but a lot of Spurs fans want him sold this summer.
