Southampton moved themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone.

A number of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter to react to Jan Bednarek’s performance during the Saints’s hugely important win against Fulham that has lifted Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men out of the bottom three in the Premier League.

Despite having less of the ball than the visitors, Southampton managed to largely put the game to bed during the first-half at St Mary’s. Oriol Romeu and James Ward-Prowse made the scoreline 2-0 before the break, and the Cottagers were unable to get themselves a lifeline.

The Saints’s position is still precarious. Hasenhuttl’s men are now just two points above the relegation zone – but there is no question that the current boss is getting some excellent performances out of some of his players.

And one of those who looks almost transformed under Hasenhuttl is Bednarek. The 22-year-old barely featured during Mark Hughes’s tenure, but has become a key man in the new regime.

And the Southampton supporters on social media believe that Hasenhuttl is producing a masterstroke with the centre-back as he continues to impress now he has a more prominent role.

There was more than one comparison with Paolo Maldini after the win against Fulham. Bednarek clearly has an incredibly long way to go before he is near that level, but there is no question that he is silencing a lot of his critics and probably proving a big point to his former boss.
