The youngster is said to have impressed Leeds United on trial.
Sturgeon had been on the books of the Ultimate Football Coaching Academy, which is based at Sports Park Weetwood, in the north east of Leeds.
And the official UFCA Twitter account shared the news of the youngster's move on Wednesday afternoon:
✍️ Congratulations to Ben Sturgeon, who has joined #LUFC Academy following a successful trial period.— UFCA (@UltimateFCA) 27 February 2019
Ben joined #UFCA in 2013 with no previous professional club academy experience.
Good Luck Ben - we're incredibly proud of you! pic.twitter.com/NOecD4siz2
Sturgeon, about whom there is little online information, is not the only youth-age player to have trialled with Leeds of late.
The Whites took a look at Ashton Hall earlier this month, although the Matlock Town defender has since appeared for Sheffield United's Under-18s, having previously spent time with the Blades.
The Matlock Mercury reported last week that Hall was still awaiting a response from Elland Road.
UFCA states on its official Twitter account that it is 'dedicated to youth development', coaching ages four-23 and competing against professional academies.
