Leeds United threw away the chance to go back to the top of the Championship on Tuesday night.
Leeds fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Tyler Roberts’s performance during the Whites’ defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Tuesday night which saw Marcelo Bielsa’s side pass up the chance to return to the top of the Championship.
On a miserable night for Leeds, Luke Freeman scored the game’s only goal during the early stages of the second-half with one of the few pieces of quality on show from either side.
QPR went into the game off the back of a run of seven straight league defeats. But barring one superb move from the visitors in the latter stages, it was the home side who looked most likely to score a second goal of the game. Kiko Casilla was certainly given a tougher evening than his opposite number.
And many of the Leeds supporters appear to feel that Roberts’s display was one of several key reasons for their struggles. He was clearly not the only player to be off the boil on Tuesday, but the Wales international appeared to really struggle at a ground where he had shone when the Whites were beaten in the FA Cup last month.
He struggled to make anything happen going forward, with his passing often proving to be poor. And it was Roberts who gave away possession in the build-up to the home side’s goal – though Leeds still had opportunities to win the ball back or prevent the chance falling to Freeman inside the six-yard box.
Roberts is still learning and it must not be forgotten that he bailed Leeds out on a couple of occasions earlier in the campaign. But it does appear that several supporters do not believe that the youngster is the answer to the Whites’ number 10 conundrum.
Some have asked for the former West Brom starlet – who signed for an initial £2.5 million last January (via Yorkshire Evening Post) – to be dropped from the side that faces the Baggies this Friday. But with Leeds’s options stretched, it is not entirely clear who would come in to replace the forward.
Here is what some of the fans made of Roberts’s evening…
Worst of the season. Roberts looked awful tonight. Second half was shambolic. Anyway on to Friday. A win is a must!! #lufc— Neil (@Neil77wilson) February 26, 2019
Think Tyler Roberts performance tonight for Leeds was possibly the worst I’ve seen in recent history from any player for the club #LUFC— Matt (@MattyBullock) February 26, 2019
Roberts had a mare… but look at there goal they get to the bi line put a ball in player comes in scores…leeds get to the bye line look around see no where there pass it back to the halfway line..or Harrison trips over himself #lufc— thomas banks (@ThomasBanks1985) February 26, 2019
I’ll be fuming if Ayling, Roberts and Harrison start on Friday. Empty shirts. #LUFC— The Chris Knowles (@TheChrisKnowles) February 26, 2019
Can we just agree that Roberts should be nowhere near first team football in this division? #lufc— blank.. (@ohhmiijosh_) February 26, 2019
Only way we beat West Brom Friday is if we let Tyler Roberts play for them #lufc— Ryan Riley (@RyanRileyLufc) February 26, 2019
Oh how we miss having someone like Saiz! Thought Tyler Roberts was awful. But he will start Friday as there is no one else! #lufc— Ross Pearce (@Ross__Pearce) February 26, 2019
Don’t think anyone turned up tonight. Roberts useless. Harrison never better than average. Pablo wasteful. Bamford missing. The rest par or below.#lufc— josh greenwood (@lufcjosh22) February 26, 2019
