Watch Dane DeHaan go wild in "The Kid" trailer

Actor Dane DeHaan visits the Build Series to discuss the film 'The Kid' at Build Studio on February 14, 2019 in New York City.

We've seen a lot of news regarding biopics lately, and there's another one (kind of) on the way.

The Kid, a film by Vincent D'Onofrio, is a quasi-biopic of the famous outlaw Billy the Kid (Dane DeHaan), but the title is a slight play on words.

The other 'Kid' is Rio (Jake Schur), who is forced to go on the run to save his sister (Leila George) from their abusive uncle, Grant (Chris Pratt). Along the way, Rio bumps into Sheriff Pat Garrett (Ethan Hawke), who himself is chasing down Billy, forcing Rio into both a literal and metaphorical quandary.

From the trailer alone, The Kid looks to have a breezy tone, with DeHaan and Pratt especially looking like having fun in their villainous roles. For the latter, it's a radical departure from his usual profile, and it will be interesting to see if he can carry off the menacing vibe he requires. DeHaan looks pretty well suited to the loose cannon role; here's hoping it doesn't stray into the camp-ness that beset his portrayal of the Green Goblin in The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Kid is due to release on March 8 in the US, but there is currently no further news about worldwide distribution. To gain a glimpse of the western, watch the trailer below.
