Pundit Jamie Redknapp has told the Daily Mail that he believes Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers would be 'perfect' for the Leicester City job.

The Foxes were thrashed 4-1 at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday evening, in a defeat which proved to be Claude Puel's final game as Leicester boss.

Frenchman Puel was under pressure for months, but the defeat to Palace proved to be the final straw as his departure was confirmed on Sunday morning.

The club are expected to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season before landing a permanent boss in the summer – and Rodgers is a major contender.

The Daily Mail report that Leicester have made Rodgers their top target, and are willing to pay the £5million to lure him to the King Power Stadium this summer.

Rodgers has been out of English football for more than three years now, having been sacked by Liverpool in October 2015, just months before taking over Celtic.

Rodgers has rebuilt his reputation in Scotland, and looks set to make it three league titles in a row, and potentially a third treble in a row having dominated domestic football.

Now, pundit Redknapp has suggested that Leicester are the 'perfect' club for Rodgers, believing he can take them to pushing for European football whilst developing the top young talents already at the club.

“When you look at the talent at Leicester, it is clear that Claude Puel failed to get the best from this group,” said Redknapp. “They have a host of exciting young players in Demarai Gray, James Maddison, Ben Chilwell and Harvey Barnes. This team should be pushing Watford and Wolves for seventh place, not languishing in 12th.”

“If Brendan Rodgers can be tempted to leave Celtic now, he can fire them back up the table. Brendan has a track record of developing and improving players. Stuart Armstrong came on leaps and bounds after working with him at Celtic and earned a £7million move to Southampton. With a treble of trebles in sight, it will be difficult for Rodgers to leave Celtic. Whether he moves now or at the end of the season, Leicester is the perfect destination for him to return to England,” he added.
