Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing to replace one first-team ace this summer.

Tottenham want to sign Maxi Gomez in the summer with Mauricio Pochettino ready to let Fernando Llorente leave Spurs when his contract expires, according to a report from the Sunday Mirror (24/2; page 61).

Llorente has enjoyed a good run of form since the turn of the year. He has scored six goals in 2019, and provided three assists in his last four Premier League appearances.

His form has helped the Spaniard – who earns £100,000-a-week, according to the London Evening Standard – win a lot more fans amongst the Tottenham supporters. But it appears that that has not changed anything in regards to his future – with his potential replacement already lined up.

The Sunday Mirror (24/2; page 61) reports that Llorente is expected to leave the club at the end of the campaign, and Pochettino wants to bring Gomez in from Celta Vigo to provide competition for Harry Kane.

The 22-year-old has been one of the few shining lights in a tough season for the La Liga side, who are in danger of being relegated out of the top flight. He has scored nine goals in 22 games, while he has also provided five assists in the top flight.

Gomez clearly has a lot of potential. So he will not come cheap, even if Celta are relegated from La Liga this season. But after a couple of very quiet transfer windows, Pochettino will surely be looking for the board to provide some significant backing in the market.
